Kazu Kibuishi

I don't know why I have so much trouble making connections. I was reading about Kibuishi's Copper, which sounded so great that I thought I should take a look. And it looks wonderful enough for me to overlook my disappointments in the writing. I can LOOK, you know? And it turns out Kibuishi is the guy who did Daisy Kutter, the early panels of which we looked at in class on our very first day.

Daisy Kutter was named one of the American Library Association's top ten Young Adult titles for 2006 and will be one of the recommended optional readings for Graphic Novels as Kids Books later in this term.

what's wrong with the writing.
on a different not. . .
I got persepolis 2 and embrodieries from the library and i've decided that the thing i didn't like about Marjane Satrapi is that she writes for children and if I look at it from that perspective then i am less annoyed by her pointed style.
What do you think of _Copper_? Have a look and tell me what you see in it.
I love the colors, the backgrounds, the lines.... but I don't think it's particularly funny or moving or even interesting. I haven't read them all; I went to the website and read several, in and out of sequence, and wasn't affected--except by the images.

ok. where's the link?
i have a dvd of a series based on a comic series called "the maxx" and the movie is actually true to the comic i think the artist of the comic animated the movie, well it's not actually a movie it's more like a big chunk of the comics that was serialized i think on MTV in their "liquid television" adult animation phase. I could bring it in some time if you are interested.

nevermind i found the website.
ya i like the art and it's cute a few things made me chuckle but it's dissapointing that he doesn't continue the story from strip to strip, i think it would be more interesting if we could see the whole story of one of those little adventures they have, the way it is it feels like excerpts from his adventures in dreamland.
the part where they aren't dreaming it's sort of the story of a little boy and his dog going through some sort of midlife crisis.
David, thanks for the links to the Monkey King stories! I see Gene Yang has worked with the Monkey King before and I'm interested in seeing those earlier works--maybe I'll look for them at Comic Relief tomorrow.
& thanks too for checking out _Cooper_. Seeing it as a dreamscape helps me reconsider the work as a whole.
